Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining.There are hypo- and hyperacidic gastritis (that is, with high or low acidity).
It is known that the stomach produces hydrochloric acid, the content of which determines the type of gastritis.Diet plays a leading role in the treatment of gastritis.
Basic rules of diet
The main goal of the diet in gastritis is to follow a diet that ensures normal digestion.
Treatment table for gastritis (per day) should include:
- 90-100 gr.proteins (60% animal),
- 90-100 gr.Fat (75% animal)
- 400-420 gr.carbohydrates.
The total energy value should be 2800-3000 kcal.
Food rules during gastritis
power mode
First of all, you need to follow the feeding schedule (at the same time).Secondly, during gastritis, meals should be fractional, 4-5 times a day, but at the same time it is necessary to remove food (they provoke "excess" secretion of gastric juice and reduce its production during breakfast/lunch/dinner, which disrupts the processes of processing and assimilation of food).
Reading while eating, watching TV and "eating while running" should be strictly excluded.
Knowledge of measurement
In the case of gastritis, the saying "after eating should be a little hungry" is more relevant than ever.
Firstly, the feeling of fullness appears only 10-15 minutes after eating, and secondly, a full stomach does not cope well with its functions, especially gastritis.
chewable food
Chewing food for a long time (at least 25-30 seconds for each piece) helps to process food more thoroughly, which eases stomach pain.In addition, hunger is satisfied faster in this case (which prevents overeating).
Refusal of complex dishes
The gastritis menu should consist of simple but varied dishes.A large number of ingredients in dishes makes it difficult for the stomach to digest them.
Rest after eating
After each meal, you should rest for 15-20 minutes (do not fall asleep).You can read a book or listen to music.
Prohibited foods during gastritis
with increased acidity

With increased production of hydrochloric acid during gastritis, the diet should be aimed at reducing the production of gastric juice.Thus, the principles of the treatment table consist of 3 points:
- Mechanical- avoid eating rough fiber foods (bran bread, turnips, radishes, "old" meat);
- chemical- Prohibition of foods that increase the production of gastric juice (alcohol, coffee, white cabbage, citrus fruits, sour fruits and berries, strong broths);
- Thermal- Do not eat very cold or, on the contrary, hot food (optimal temperature 50 degrees).
Prohibited foods in hyperacid gastritis:
- fresh, especially warm bread, butter and puff pastry;
- Cereals: pearl barley, legumes, millet, barley, corn (coarse fiber);
- rich meat and fish broths, okroshka, borscht, mushroom soups (contain many extracted substances that stimulate the production of gastric juice);
- fatty and stringy varieties of any meat: duck, chicken, pork, smoked meat (they are difficult to absorb in the stomach and increase the production of hydrochloric acid);
- Fatty and salty fish (provoking the production of gastric juice);
- fermented milk products (all types of sharp cheese, limited to sour cream);
- Vegetables: rutabaga, radish, radish, sorrel, spinach, canned vegetables (coarse fiber), as well as onion and garlic, especially raw (stimulates the gastric glands in the mucous membrane);
- Sweets: sour fruits and berries, unripe fruits, chocolate, dried fruits (coarse fiber, increased acidity);
- spices: mustard, pepper, pepper (stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid);
- carbonated drinks, kvass, coffee (stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid, increases the formation of gases, causes heartburn);
- Fried and boiled eggs, animal fats (except butter).
Gastritis with low acidity
The goal of the diet in gastritis with low acidity is to stimulate the production of gastric juice (moderately).Food should be taken after the start of hydrochloric acid secretion, i.e. in the first phase (advertisements or programs about food, beautiful photos of food, "delicious" conversations can cause gastric juice to be released).
Prohibited foods during hypoacid gastritis:
- fresh bread, rich cakes ("heavy" food for the stomach, complicates chemical and mechanical processing);
- restriction of pearl barley, legumes, millet;
- fatty meat, meat with fascia (films), canned food, smoked meat (inadequate mechanical processing of food, excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid);
- oily and salty fish;
- vegetables and fruits with rough fibers (white cabbage, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, bell peppers), mushrooms;
- berries with grain or thick skin (raspberries, strawberries, red currants, berries, figs);
- sharp and salty cheese, milk - neutralizes hydrochloric acid;
- pork, beef, lamb fat and fat (not absorbed due to low production of hydrochloric acid, hard-to-digest food);
- Spices and condiments (irritation of the stomach lining), as well as chocolate, grape juice, alcohol;
Authorized products
with increased acidity

Products and dishes that are allowed and recommended for gastritis with increased acidity should neutralize the high content of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and promote digestion in the stomach (ground dishes, liquid porridge, cooked meat, fish and poultry).
Allowed products for hyperacid gastritis:
- "Yesterday's" or dry bread, crackers, dry biscuits (biscuits);
- vegetable puree (carrots, potatoes, beets, cauliflower), grated tomatoes;
- fruits that do not contain rough fibers (bananas, baked apples, ripe pears, sweet berries, as well as preparation of fruit drinks, compotes, jellies, jellies from them);
- Sweet products: milk cream, marshmallows, marshmallows, honey (drinking honey water 1.5-2 hours before eating reduces acidity in the stomach, has a healing and immunostimulating effect);
- butter (natural and cream), vegetable oils (contains vitamin E, which neutralizes hydrochloric acid);
- lean varieties of meat and poultry (veal, beef without tendons and fascia, "white" chicken meat);
- milk, cream, low-fat cottage cheese (antacid - anti-heartburn effect, covers the mucous membrane of the stomach, neutralizes gastric juice);
- River fish (contains a large amount of unsaturated fats, which normalizes the functioning of the digestive tract) in the form of cutlets or steamed;
- seafood;
- Parsley and dill, vanillin and cinnamon in small quantities to enhance appetite;
- soft-boiled egg or steamed omelette (preferably white);
- Cabbage, potato, carrot juices (or a mixture) - antacid effect, high content of vitamin U - anti-ulcer factor;
- Rose decoction (a lot of vitamin C, which has a healing effect and stimulates the appetite), weak tea or coffee with milk, cocoa, still mineral water (removal of toxins).
with low acidity
Products recommended for gastritis with low acidity should activate the production of hydrochloric acid.Eating should coincide with the start of gastric juice secretion.
Allowed products for hypoacid gastritis:
- dry bread, crackers, baked goods;
- porridge with water or diluted milk, well-boiled, liquid, as well as steamed meatballs and cutlets, puddings, soufflés;
- veal, beef, chicken without skin;
- low-fat meat and fish broths, you can add cereals, pasta, if it is well tolerated, borsch, cabbage soup, beetroot soup with finely chopped vegetables;
- potatoes, zucchini, pumpkin, white (finely chopped) cabbage, cauliflower (boiled, steamed or pureed, pudding);
- Potato, cabbage, carrot juices immediately before meals (stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid);
- honey water before meals (stimulates acid formation), watermelon, grated grapes, baked apples, compotes and mousses from very ripe and sweet fruits and berries;
- tea with lemon, weak coffee, cocoa with diluted milk, rose infusion;
- vegetable oils, butter;
- fermented milk products, grated and soft cheese in small pieces;
- A soft-boiled egg or an egg white omelette.
The need to follow a diet
No drug can completely cure acute gastritis or cause stable remission in the presence of chronic gastritis.
All advertised drugs, available to everyone, are sold in pharmacies without a prescription.But they only eliminate (temporarily) unpleasant symptoms (heartburn, pain, chills).
Following a diet during gastritis not only makes the patient's life easier, but also disciplines a person.
The treatment table for gastritis is complete and healthy food, normalization of lifestyle, rejection of bad habits and low-quality products.In addition, the gastritis diet helps to normalize weight (those who have lost weight gain weight, and overweight people lose weight), because timely and nutritious meals not only normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, but also all metabolic processes and, therefore, strengthen the immune system.
Consequences of diet insecurity

If you refuse a diet during any type of gastritis, the patient may face the following problems:
- vitamin deficiency;
- diseases of the liver, pancreas, duodenum, large and small intestines (as a result of stomach dysfunction);
- significant loss of body weight (fear of eating);
- Peptic ulcer disease and its consequences: ulcer perforation, ulcer penetration - germination in the organ, bleeding;
- Formation of atrophic gastritis and its transformation into gastric cancer.
